People across the country had celebrated Prithvi Jayanti and National Unity Day organizing various programs today.
People across the nation had celebrated the 295th Prithvi Jayanti, commemorating the birth of late King Prithvi Narayan Shah, also known as the unifier of modern Nepal. King Prithvi Narayan Shah is known as the "Father of the Nation".
Though the government of Nepal hadnt celebrated the Prithvi Jayanti formally, mass had celebrated Prithvi Jayanti as a memorial to Late King Prithvi Narayan Shah along with a rally with placards and banners had been organized in Kathmandu.
The mass of people from different places had gathered around Shahs statue situated at the main gate of Singh Durbar to offer floral tribute to the late King Shah including different political leaders.
As the government had not declared the public holiday on the occasion of Prithvi Jayanti the people including senior leader of major political parties of the nation had demanded for public holiday but the present government led by Prime Minister Puspa Kamal Dahal has not declared a public holiday today.
Prithvi Jayanti or the National Unity Day is observed every year on Poush 27 of the Nepali calendar.
