Kathmandu- Fringe political parties including the Naya Shakti Nepal on Monday picketed the election offices around the country. Central leaders and cadres of the parties picketed the Anamnagar-based Regional Election Office and Kathmandu District Election Office.

Naya Shakti and some other fringe political parties have been protesting against the EC's decision to allow those parties in Parliament to use the poll symbols they have been applying but distribute news ones to those not in the parliament. Naya Shakti has demanded that it should be provided with 'eye' as election symbol.

Different leaders including coordinator Dr Baburam Bhattarai were detained in the course of protesting before the Election Commission in the Capital City yesterday.

The protestors were arrested for defying the order not to cross the prohibited area, police said. However, Dr Bhattarai's personal secretary Bishwo Deep Pandey claimed that the party leaders and cadres were arrested for no apparent reason.
