Kathmandu : The Tribhuvan University senate meeting scheduled for today was postponed due to health issue of TU Chancellor and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.

Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Tirtha Khaniya said the TU delegation that reached the Prime Minister's residence Saturday to remind him about the programme could not meet him even after a long wait as he was reported not well. The team was later asked to put off the meeting by the Education Minister on behalf of the Prime Minister.

According to Dr Khaniya, the new date for the meeting shall be fixed after discussions with the prime minister and education minister.

Amendment and repeal of old rules was in the agenda of the Senate scheduled for today. Issues relating to addressing demands of TU teachers, employees and students and public procurement provisions were also included in the agenda. The TU pre-senate meeting held on Saturday had finalized the issues for discussions in the senate. The TU holds its senate meeting twice in a year.

TU Rector Sudha Tripathi confirmed the adjournment of the session due to illness of the Prime Minister.

Senate agenda not clear: PM's Press Advisor

However, the Prime Minister Secretariat has presented a different reason behind the put off the meeting. It has refuted the report that the TU Senate was postponed due to the PM's health condition.

Prime Minister's press advisor Dr Kundan Aryal said the PM is in good health. "He had attended two programmes on Saturday and is busy in other programmes since this morning."

According to him, the Prime Minister could not attend the meeting as its agenda seemed not clear. He accused the TU of twisting the matter.

Meanwhile, part time teachers of various TU constituent colleges today, started a sit in at Kirtipur today, demanding permanent status.RSS
