UML makes winning start in Kathmandu Metropolis

Kathmandu - The CPN (UML) has made a winning start in Kathmandu Metropolis in the first phase of local polls.

As the counting of votes is underway in the metropolis, UML's Bharat Lal Shrestha got elected as Ward Chairman of Kathmandu Metropolis-1 on Wednesday.

He received 1035 votes. His closest contestant Bhola Thapa of Nepali Congress (NC) got 639 votes. Likewise, UML's Asta Maya Tandukar got elected a woman member and UML's Asta Kumar Shrestha as member under open category.

In the counting of votes for Mayoral post, Bidhya Sundar Shakya of UML is leading the vote count for Kathmandu Metropolitan City with 1083 votes. His closest rival Rajuram Joshi of NC is at 740 votes. Ranju Darshana of Bibeksheel Nepali and Kishor Thapa of Sajha Party are at 501 and 385 votes respectively.

The vote counting is underway since three days and is going on at a snail's pace. The Election Commission (EC) is preparing to speed up the counting process, but not progress has been made so far.
