Journalist Baniya speaks on LED bulb purchase

Nepal has finally become load-shedding free country due to the efforts of Kulman Ghising and his team. He is the managing director of Nepal Electricity Authority (NEA). Different steps are taken for the development of hydro-powers in Nepal and many hydro-power projects are being launched in the country.

Recently, NEA had decided to bring 20 million qualitative LED bulb from India. Ghising was blamed that he was trying to corrupt a huge amount of money by purchasing LED bulbs from India. He also challenged other private sectors to supply LED bulbs at a cheaper rate than the government.

The LED bulbs are going to brought from Energy Efficiency Service Limited (EESL) of India. The company has told that the price agreed for Nepal is equal to the rate charged to their citizens. The company would sell those bulbs to NEA at the rate of INR 65 (NPR 104) per bulb.

Kulman Ghising told that the people can buy those LED bulbs at the rate of NPR 135 to 140. He also told that NEA cannot issue global tender to purchase LED bulbs because the process of tender would delay the supply of LED bulbs by one year and the lowest bidder may not supply qualitative LED bulbs consistently.
