Petrol shortage in Kathmandu Valley

Of late, there has been shortage of petroleum products in the Kathmandu Valley. The shortage started with the protest in Madhes. It is said that the shortage of petroleum products was created after demands surged significantly due to the protest.

On the other hand, the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) claims that the shortage resulted as consumers started to stock petroleum products fearing acute shortage.

But, most of the fuel stations in the Valley were closed today and petroleum products were not distributed even in the petrol pumps that were open.

Only one storage tank for petrol is in operation at the Thankot-based depot of Nepal Oil Corporation. The storage tank has a capacity of storing one million liters of petrol. The other storage tank for petrol has turned defunct.
